In the documentary What Is Real, Sharon Gannon (Co-founder of Jivamukti Yoga) shares the story of how the five tenets of the method came to be. Sharon-ji says she saw each one on her fingertips, and they manifested to lend a hand and help other Jivamukti teachers.

The Jivamukti method expects students to include all 5 elements in every practice and not, for instance, to practice asana separately from scriptural study, chanting and meditation.

The five tenets:

Ahimsa - non-harming, through a vegan diet as it causes the least amount of harm to other beings, the planet and yourself.

Bhakti - devotion, surrender yourself to the love of something other or higher than yourself.

Dhyana - meditation, the practice of meditation and the continuous focus of attention on an object, symbol or sound.

Nada - sound/vibration, practice yoga by listening for the unstruck, internal sound; by chanting Om or Sanskrit mantras.

Shastra - study of ancient yogic scriptures, Sanskrit alphabet and grammar.

Printed on a curved hem racerback singlet, ethically made out of 70% Bamboo viscose and 30% organic cotton. Printed with water based eco-friendly inks, which are resistant to machine washing, using environmentally friendly detergents.
